The RPCEC is managed by the The National Coordinating Center of Clinical Trials (CENCEC) a nonprofit organization, subordinate to the Vice Minister of Teaching and Research of the Ministry of Public Health of Cuba (MINSAP). It was created in 1991 by Resolution 627/91 of the Council of Ministers and by the Resolution 10/92 of the Public Health Ministry. For its functioning, the RPCEC is supported by the Directorate of Science and Technology of the Ministry of Public Health.
The registration of clinical trials in the RPCEC is voluntary and free, but there are mandatory fields in the trials forms. The data are part of the minimum data set established by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE).
The RPCEC registry is bilingual both in Spanish and English and to register a clinical trial in its database is required to complete data forms in Spanish and English. Once both forms are completed and that the review team found that data are not inconsistent, the trial receives a registration number, called RPCEC code, and a date that corresponds with the date when the clinical trials is published and made public to all. Responsibility for quality and accuracy of data relies with the sponsor. Once the clinical trial is registered, it will be not removed from the public view.
